Dr.Richa Thakur is a distinguished academician, accomplished classical dancer,researcher, and administrator with extensive contributions to the field ofIndian classical dance and performing arts. She currently serves as thePrincipal of Naveen Government Music College, Durg, and is widely recognizedfor her dedication to the promotion of Indian cultural heritage througheducation, research, and performance.

Shespecializes in Bharatanatyam, one of the most revered classical dance forms ofIndia. She completed her M.A. and qualified JRF/NET in 1990, and later earnedher Ph.D. in Bharatanatyam in 2005 with her research titled “Sangeet Suryodayaka Nrittadhyay: Ek Anushilan.” In addition to Bharatanatyam, she also holds aVisharad Diploma in Kathak and diplomas in Folk Dance and Music, reflecting herdiverse expertise in Indian performing arts.

Withdecades of experience in academia and the arts, She has made significantcontributions as a researcher, author, and Ph.D. supervisor. Under herguidance, six scholars have successfully completed their Ph.D., whileadditional scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral research. She haspublished numerous research papers in national and international journals,along with books and book chapters related to classical dance, Indian culture,aesthetics, and performing arts.

She’sexcellence has been recognized through several prestigious national awards,including the Gopikrishna National Award, Nrityabhushan National Award, NrityaVilasini Award, Nritya Nishth Award, and Nritya Acharya Surabhi, among manyothers. She has also received notable academic honors such as the WomenResearcher Award and the Indo Global Education Excellence Award.

Beyondacademia, she is an accomplished performer who has represented Indian classicaldance at numerous national and international festivals and cultural events. Shehas performed at renowned platforms including Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava,International Theatre Olympiad, Bhoramdeo Mahotsav, and various national dancefestivals. She has also contributed to theatre and cinema, notably acting inthe telefilm Sadgati, directed by the legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

Shehas held several important academic and cultural positions. She is an HonoraryProfessor at Sri Sri University, Bhubaneswar, and has served as a member of theBoard of Studies at institutions including BHU Varanasi, Indira Kala SangeetUniversity Khairagarh, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur, and HemchandYadav University Durg. She is also actively involved in organizing nationalseminars, workshops, and value-added courses that promote innovation in artseducation.

Throughher leadership, scholarship, and artistic excellence, Dr. Richa Thakurcontinues to inspire students and scholars while strengthening the legacy ofIndian classical dance and cultural traditions.
